Uganda judges to rule on scrapping presidential age limit

KAMPALA 18 Apr (ANA) - The Supreme Court in Uganda's capital, Kampala, is packed as people wait for the judgement on whether the presidential age limit of 75 years old can be lifted.

The seven judges are each delivering their rulings.

The constitutional court, which is a lower court, upheld the amendment to the constitution that was passed by parliament at the end of 2017.

If approved, the change would allow President Yoweri Museveni, who will be over 75 by the time of the next election in 2021, to run for a sixth term in office.

Two of the judges have so far ruled and both have upheld the constitutional change, the BBC's Patricia Oyella reports.(ANA)
