NEW DELHI, 28 Sept. - (ANA)- A retired army officer and his wife have been found hacked to death inside their home in India, with police hunting for the killers. Shamsuddin, 58, and his wife Saddo Begum, 55, were discovered dead at their house in Sadabad town, in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning.

 

Police were alerted after the couple failed to open their house and people nearby became concerned. Officers rushed to the property at about 9am and found the pair dead inside. Both victims had suffered severe injuries to their necks and stomachs, with police suspecting they had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.

 

The shocking discovery sparked an immediate murder investigation, with forensic experts and a dog squad sent to the scene to search for evidence.

 

Hathras Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said: "Prima facie, it appears they were killed with a sharp-edged weapon."

 

Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the killings.

 

Police have registered a case against unidentified suspects and formed five teams to track down those responsible.

 

Officers were also examining the circumstances surrounding the couple's final hours and searching the property for clues.

 

Shamsuddin had retired from the Army about 14 years ago and later ran a fabrication business from the ground floor of the property, while he and Saddo lived upstairs.

 

Police said Shamsuddin had two wives. Saddo, his first wife, was staying with him on Saturday night, while his second wife, Seema, lived nearby with their three children.

 

Shamsuddin and Saddo had no children together, while he had three children with Seema.

 

The couple's bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations as investigators continue to piece together what happened.

 

The case was reported by the Hindustan Times, which said police teams were working to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the double killing.  - (ANA) -
