Elon Musk is beginning to realise his mega-tech vision
NEW YORK, 23 Oct. - (ANA) - Elon Musk’s companies, SpaceX and Tesla, have begun exploring a merger that would create a $3.5 trillion corporate giant spanning key sectors of cutting-edge technology. Musk argued that combining the companies would allow them to deepen cooperation on chip design, robotics, software, and other technologies; both firms’ share prices rose following the announcement.
AI, robotics, and space are becoming one industry. Grok is already integrated into Tesla cars, and can increasingly control more of the car’s functions. New satellite technology will soon allow Teslas to be connected to high-speed internet everywhere. That’s just a taste of what’s to come. If SpaceX is going to build infrastructure in orbit and on the moon, the robotics capabilities that Tesla is developing would be part of that plan.
The software boom of the last few decades didn’t need these kinds of mergers: Big tech companies could simply buy out any startup that might threaten their turf. But the next technology wave is different, because it’s physical, requiring data centers and chips, for instance. Size makes these big engineering projects more feasible.
And companies will have to convince investors to come along for the capex ride. That’s where Musk has separated himself, being unafraid to bet everything on insane ideas like private space flight and electric cars, and succeeding. Investors will keep backing that vision.
The outlines of MegaMusk Inc. are starting to emerge, where special committees of SpaceX and Tesla directors will now have to bless the merger. Combining the two would bring the tech and infrastructure parts of Musk’s empire together and a hyperconcentrated bet on the billionaire’s inventions, politics, and personality. - (ANA) -
