Rescue efforts underway as 'at least 46 dead' in horror train crash
MADRID, 28 Oct. - (ANA) - The crash involving two trains on a popular line has resulted in dozens of casualties.
- A Renfe AVE train travelling from Madrid to Seville in Spain collided with an Iryo train that was going in the opposite direction. The crash involving the two trains took place between the towns of Los Yébenes and Urda in Toledo shortly after 9am local time.
At least 46 people have reportedly died with emergency services reporting dozens more injured in the incident.
There are currently no trains travelling between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalucía due to the incident. The line is popular as it runs from the capital city to the southern coast.
Photographs from the scene show at least one train carriage derailed and heavily damaged, leaving many passengers feared trapped inside the wreckage.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he is "shocked by the serious train accident in Toledo." He added that he is "constant contact with the Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente."
The crash comes after 46 people died and 292 were injured in a crash in Córdoba, Spain, in January 2026. - (ANA) -
