UK media only interested in vilifying Corbyn: Journalist

LONDON, 11 March. - (ANA) - A prominent journalist from London has slammed the way the British media cover stories related to opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, saying the media have tried to ignore an attack on the prominent politician in London on Sunday because the story did not fit into the their narrative on Corbyn.

Neil Clark told Russia’s RT television station on Monday that the attack on Corbyn a day earlier as he was visiting a mosque in his hometown constituency in north London went almost unnoticed in the mainstream British media because newspapers and other outlets are only interested in stories that “vilify” Corbyn and depict him as a “bad guy”.

Clark, a correspondent of the Guardian newspaper, said the UK media always cover stories on Corbyn “that can see him in a bad light”, adding that the seasoned politician has always been labeled as “a traitor, an anti-Semite, a terrorist supporter/sympathizer” since he became leader of the Labour Party in 2015.

London’s Metropolitan Police said on Monday that a 31-year-old man had been charged with assault by beating after he reportedly hit Corbyn with an egg during a visit by Labour leader to the Finsbury Park Mosque, where he was attending an event meant to tackle stigma around Muslims in Britain.

Since first news of the attack on Corbyn broke late on Sunday, there has been a visible lack of interest in major newspapers and news channels in the UK to cover the story on a politicians who chairs one of the two main parties in the country.

Corbyn, a socialist who is seeking drastic reforms in the way Britain is governed, has been repeatedly targeted in the media and in the political circles for his alleged anti-Semitic views. Many say the allegations are in fact a price Corbyn is paying for his support for Muslims in Britain and elsewhere, especially in the occupied Palestine territories where he has strongly protested Israeli regime’s policies against the Palestinians.  - (ANA) -
