Israeli strikes kill 70 in Gaza amid Trump claim of Israeli pause in strikes

ISRAELI OCCUPIED AND STARVED GAZA, 05 Oct. - (ANA) - At least 70 Palestinians were killed in Gaza in 24 hours of Israeli airstrikes, despite US President Donald Trump’s claim that Israel paused its bombing campaign.

At least 45 Palestinians were killed in Israeli bombardments and airstrikes on Saturday, most of them in famine-stricken Gaza City, according to Al Jazeera.

The Israeli army has intensified its offensive there in recent weeks, forcing around one million residents to flee to the overcrowded south.

Israeli attacks have continued both in displacement areas and across Gaza City, particularly near al-Shifa Hospital, where much of the ground assault has been concentrated.

Medics said 18 people were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli strike on a residential building in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, which also damaged surrounding homes.

In a statement on Telegram, Gaza's civil defence agency said seven children aged between two months and eight years were among the dead.

This comes as US President Donald Trump called on Israel to halt its bombardment after Hamas said it had accepted Trump’s 20-point proposal to end the war.

Despite the rising death toll, Trump claimed Israel had "temporarily stopped the bombing" to give his plan "a chance".   - (ANA) -
