Clearing Gaza debris could take over 7 years: UN official

GENEVA, 17 Jan. - (ANA) - A UN official has warned that clearing the vast amount of debris in Gaza could take more than seven years.

The enclave is estimated to contain over 60 million tonnes of rubble following more than two years of Israel's offensive.

UNOPS chief Jorge Moreira da Silva said residents are exhausted and traumatized, with winter conditions worsening the humanitarian crisis.

He stressed the urgent need for shelter, fuel and large-scale debris removal to support nearly two million people.

The United Nations estimates that more than $53 billion will be needed for early recovery and reconstruction.   - (ANA) -
