Guterres calls for immediate ceasefire and de-escalation
THE UNITED NATIONS, 28 Feb. - (ANA) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Saturday called for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation, warning that continued hostilities risk triggering a broader regional war with “grave consequences for civilians and stability”.
“The use of force by the United States and Israel against Iran, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran across the region, undermine international peace and security,” Mr Guterres said in a statement.
He reiterated that there was “no viable alternative” to the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law and the UN Charter.
Mr Guterres strongly urged all parties to return immediately to the negotiating table and called on UN member states to respect their obligations under international law, including the Charter of the United Nations. - (ANA) -
