TEHRAN/MUSCAT, 26 August. - (ANA) - Iran said it had restarted talks with ⁠neighbour Oman to manage the Strait of Hormuz. The two countries with shorelines on the strait issued a joint statement after talks between their foreign ministers in Tehran yesterday. 

 

They said they were working on a "temporary navigational corridor" to allow ships through Hormuz, adding that an agreement under discussion could also include a joint project to clear the strait of mines. 

 

That would be followed by further talks on the long-term administration of the waterway. Why it matters: Iran and Oman have held on-and-off talks for weeks over the management of traffic through the strategic waterway, which handled about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before the war began in February. 

 

Most shipping through the strait has been suspended since then.   - (ANA) -
