MEPs to host parliamentarians from Africa, Caribbean and Pacific
BRUSSELS, 07 Nov. - (ANA) - Next week about 160 parliamentarians from the African, Caribbean and Pacific states and MEPs will meet in the European Parliament to discuss global challenges.
This is the second plenary session of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States – European Union (OACPS–EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly under the Samoa Agreement, which entered into force in January 2024. It will take place from 9 to 13 November and will bring together parliamentarians from the OACPS regions and MEPs.
Against the backdrop of profound geopolitical transformation and growing pressure on the multilateral system the parliamentarians will discuss security and multilateralism, ocean protection, financing for development, the global race for critical raw materials, and the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.
On 9 November, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will deliver the opening speech, which will be followed by addresses by William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and José Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
The parliamentary discussions will also feature a youth forum, a women’s forum and a civil society consultation. The full agenda is available on the OACPS-EU website. - (ANA) -
