US Vice President JD Vance to lead another round of talks with Iran
WASHINGTON, 15 April. - (ANA) - US Vice President JD Vance is expected to lead another round of negotiations with Iranian officials, should a meeting happen before the ceasefire expires next week, CNN reported.
Why it matters: Key sticking points remain. Both sides have proposed suspending Iran’s uranium enrichment but have yet to agree on the duration. The US is reportedly pushing for a 20-year halt, while Iran has agreed to only five years.
The US also wants the dismantling of Iran’s major nuclear enrichment facilities and the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The war with Iran is "very close to over", with Tehran keen to reach a peace agreement, US President Donald Trump has said in an interview with Fox News.
His comments came after he said that "something could be happening over the next two days" in Islamabad, where talks with Iran were expected to continue. Mr Trump initially told the New York Post that discussions were “happening, but, you know, a little bit slow”, and said a second round of direct negotiations could take place somewhere in Europe. - (ANA) -
